It appears the club of unprofessional photographers is no longer exclusive and admission has now been thrown open to the general public.
Aman Bal; a wedding photographer is a proud member of this club, as he has refused to fulfill his obligations to a particular couple who courted his service some years ago.
The couple; Kaman and Ramandeep Rai got married in 2015 and had hired Bal to cover the ceremony. However, Bal never gave them their pictures and wedding video. They did all they could to reach him, but it proved abortive, as the photographer was totally unresponsive.
They’d engaged Bal for $8500 to cover the event and produce the wedding photo album, digital guest book, four sets of Blu-ray discs and a DVD of all the photos taken. But Bal never delivered on his word and kept stringing the couple along, making promises to bring the items, but never delivering.
Six years later, and they had still not gotten the said items.
Nemesis finally caught up with Bal and he found himself before a judge in Surrey, Canada, explaining why he was unable to deliver the photos, the couple had been paid him for six years ago.
Bal revealed that he had been a professional photographer for 15 to 20 years, and the name of his company was, Elite Images.
In his defense, Bal responded that he told the couple in January 2018 that he no longer worked at Elite Images, and employees at other companies had continued the task (he refused to name the said companies that had continued the task). And in addition, the couple owed him an outstanding of $3, 500; hence he didn’t complete the order.
Thankfully, the judge saw through his schemes and reportedly said, “Mr. Bal came up with a few more explanations for the delay, none of which is supported by the evidence, and he seemed to be literally making up these excuses in the spur of the moment on the stand.”
The no-nonsense judge ordered him to pay $7,000 to replace the products he didn’t deliver, $10,000 for mental distress, $5,000 for punitive damages, and $236 for court fees; which is a total of $22, 236.
The money might not bring Kaman and Ramandeep Rai wedding shots, but it would ease the mental distress they faced six years in the hands of the unprofessional photographer.
Couples are herein advised to do a little bit of research before choosing a wedding photographer to avoid stories like this.
