Bikram Panda, a scorned lover barged into the house of Divyalochan Hota in Bolangir, India last Tuesday with a gun in hand. Hota was the uncle of the woman he was in love with. Bikram had proposed to Hota’s niece, but her family members had rejected his proposal, so Bikram went to the house of Hota, holding him, his wife and son hostage.
“He put a gun at my head and asked me to get my niece,” Hota said. “All my appeal that she is not in our house failed to move him; however, we managed to enter a room and locked it from inside.”
The police and fire brigade got wind of the situation and rushed to the scene. Thankfully, they were able to rescue the family through the window.
After the family was rescued, Bikram locked himself in a room and threatened to open fire if anyone came near. He also threatened to kill himself.
“The man could be arrested after a five-hour-long operation. He fired several rounds at the police team and threatened to die by shooting himself,” the superintendent of police of Bolangir, Nitin Kushalkar said.
Thankfully, no one was injured, and Bikram was taken to the Town Police station for questioning.
