A heart breaking situation has forced an Indian family to make a hasty last minute decision regarding the marriage of their daughter.
Surabhi was supposed to be married to Mangesh Kumar, but suffered a heart attack in the middle of their traditional rituals known as Jaimala, when Surabhi collapsed and was later declared deadby a doctor who offered help.
The death of the bride, however, did not stop the wedding, as the families immediately agreed and arranged for the younger sister to the dead bride to be her replacement. This was indeed shocking and heart-breaking, as everyone witnessed the marriage of a bride while her sister was lying dead in the next room. Speaking to South China Morning Post, Prof. Kamei Aphun of Delhi University cleared that most marriages in India are arranged between families and the consent of those involved are not sought; this, therefore, confirms the claims by Saurabh’s bride’s younger brother, who told the local news channel TVA that both families had sat together in confusion but later came up with the idea.
Looking at it from another angle, Prof. Janaki Abraham has revealed that both families might have felt pressure in making this decision, due to financial constraint this wedding must have put them through, considering that marital rites in India are usuall very expensive, no matter your financial strength, you must consider the family name when planning for your wedding.
It is indeed a moment of mixed reactions for both families, and we hope they find the strength to carry on.
